St. Cyril & Methodius 100th Anniversary
The 100th Anniversary of Ss. Cyril & Methodius will be celebrated in 2010.
Fr. Andrew and the Anniversary Committee are announcing a Jubilee Year of Celebration: Autumn 2009 through Autumn 2010! Every month throughout the Jubilee Year there will be something special to enrich our spiritual and personal lives. What will make these celebrations special? The answer is YOU!
Let us use this next year to get back to what is important. A time to do what our ancestors did…. build the Kingdom of God by participating in and supporting the life of the Church. Let's use this time wisely to prepare ourselves for a truly joyous milestone. This should be a time of renewal - for us and for our parish; so we will be better equipped to continue serving the people of God in our local communities. Please commit yourself to regularly attending Eucharist at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church and joining in as many events as you are able.
The Kick-Off Event for the Anniversary was a Partner Parish Picnic / Open House on Sunday, September 27, 2009. In addition to good food, tours of the church were offered to give people a chance to see the relics and get an up close and personal look at the beauty that was established for us by our founding members nearly 100 years ago. This event was followed by the Living Rosary on the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, a beautiful service that drew many from our Partner Parishes.
Upcoming events include:
SsC&M Improvements to the Church: In anticipation of our 100th Anniversary to be celebrated in October, we are beginning the process of sprucing up the interior of the church. We are currently refurbishing the statues of the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph. These statues will be returned to their former position in the front of the church on either side of the Sanctuary. We are also looking at paint samples to begin painting soon. We are gathering prices to re-guild the tabernacle, if funds allow. We still hope to update the lighting, and update the carpeting, again, if funds permit. Some of this expense will be offset by the rebate from our 2009 Capital Campaign; however, it is important to remember that these rebates only arrive each June and December over the course of the next five years, therefore, the amount of work that can be accomplished before our 100th Anniversary is limited. Anyone wishing to further contribute to these projects is most welcome. If any individual or group sponsors a particular project, we will properly note your contribution.
We thank all of our groups and families who had their picture taken for our 100th Anniversary Directory. These directories will be distributed in October.
We are gathering ads for our Anniversary Banquet Program Booklet, and we thank our many parishioners who have participated by submitting ads, as well as patron and memorial listings.
We will be soon be breaking ground on our paver project that was so wonderfully supported. By the beginning of summer you will see the work unfold as you arrive each week for Mass.
We are also receiving some beautiful photo memories to share during our celebration. Those that have been submitted are being scanned and should be returned by next week.
JUBILEE MASS/BANQUET: The 100th Jubilee Mass will be held in October 2010, on a Sunday afternoon with Bishop Lawrence E. Brandt presiding. After mass, a Banquet will be held at the Diamond Ballroom in Hopwood, where everyone will have the opportunity to greet the Bishop. Please see the Anniversary Update for more information.
Other events are in the planning stages and details will be announced soon. Keep watching the bulletin and this website for more information!
In the meantime, keep reading to learn how you can make this celebration of our Community of Faith most meaningful…
PHOTO MEMORIES: Do you have old photos showing our parish life through the years? Pictures of the church and grounds at various times in its history? Pictures of recent or past parish events, etc.? We would love to include your photo memories in our celebration by publishing them in the new Parish Pictorial Directory/Jubilee Celebration Book, or by including them in a display that will be viewed at our Jubilee Reception with Bishop Lawrence E. Brandt in October 2010. While not all photos submitted can be published in the commemorative book, they can be used in the pictorial display in St. Helen Hall. If you wish to share your memories, and we hope you do, please be sure that your name, address, and telephone number are clearly marked on the back of the picture. Bring the picture to the parish office during regular office hours, or give them to one of our committee members: Tony & Nell Budinsky, Karen Inks, Frank Marhefka, Esther Ryczek, Amy Flockvich, Marilee Barnhart, Mary Lou Jennings, Karen Reckard, Jean Thompson, or Carole Labin. Your photos will be scanned/copied and safely returned to you. We know just how precious these photo memories are to you. We promise to treat them with tender loving care.
PRAYER: Continue to pray for our parish, that we may grow and prosper as a community in the years ahead. Petition our patrons, St. Cyril and St. Methodius, to intercede for us and to bless our efforts.
Our Anniversary Committee is diligently working to make our 100th Anniversary as special as possible. We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from our fellow parishioners. God bless you all!
