REVISED ROMAN MISSAL

So much we hear about the changes to the Roman Missal that will accrue on the First Sunday of Advent of this year. At times it seems very overwhelming. However, we need to put things in the right perspective and keep calm.  After all, we just didn’t start coming to church yesterday. There were many changes to the Church’s liturgy over the years and we all have survived. I am sure that we will survive this change also, to the point  that the new words will become for us a “second nature”.

As we prepare for the implementation of the Revised Roman Missal on the First Sunday of Advent, appropriate catechesis is essential to this undertaking.  The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has prepared 15 bulletin articles providing general liturgical catechesis, and touching upon issues pertinent to the Revised Roman Missal.  Copies of these articles can be found each week in our printed bulletin but also may be found below.  The articles pertaining to each publication date are as follows:

July 3                    Celebrating the Lord's Day
July 10                  Embracing Change in the Liturgy
                July 17                  The Eucharistic Prayer
July 24                  Guide to Unfamiliar Words in the Liturgy
July 31                  Hearing the Word of God at Mass
                Aug 7                    Liturgical Participation
                Aug 14                  Liturgy and Life
Aug 21                  Ministries and Roles at Mass
Aug 28                  Parts of the Mass
Sept 4                   Postures and Gestures at Mass
Sept 11                 Praying with Body, Mind, and Voice
Sept 18                 The Reception of Holy Communion at Mass
Sept 25                 Scripture and the Mass
Oct 2                     Ten Questions about the New Roman Missal
Oct 9                     The Worshipping Assembly at Mass

What Will Be Different at Mass?

Oct 15/16             Introductory Rites (including Penitential Act)
Oct 22/23             The Gloria and the Liturgy of the Word
Oct 29/30             The Profession of Faith
Nov 5/6                 The Preface Dialogue, Preface and Sanctus
                Nov 12/13             The Eucharistic Prayer
Nov 19/20             The Communion and Concluding Rites

Our hope is that through the use of these resources, many of the faithful will be prepared for the actual implementation of the Revised Roman Missal.  In the coming weeks you will receive additional information detailing our complete plan for implementation of the Missal.
